AUGUST 10
EARTHQUAKE MAGNITUDE
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 10, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, with its epicenter in San José del Palmar, Chocó.
It affected 14 departments across the country. To date, more than 53,000 people have been affected, and 11,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.
WHY HELP NOW?
The response doesn’t end when the shaking stops.
After the first critical hours, a longer phase begins: medical care, access to safe drinking water, psychosocial support, humanitarian aid, and the restoration of essential services.
Communities will need support for weeks and months to come.
THE FIRST PHASE SAVES LIVES. THE ONES THAT FOLLOW HELP REBUILD THEM
